What Makes a Rolex Special

Rolex watches are known for their quality, craftsmanship, and style, and are considered a luxury statement, aren’t they? From business leaders to presidents, you can find a Rolex on the wrists of powerful people in the world. But why is that? What is it that makes this fine Swiss mechanical watch such a special item?

There are some things I can suggest. First, let’s look at quality. Rolex watches are made with high-quality materials, including 904L stainless steel and precious stones. They are assembled by hand and undergo rigorous testing, including in-house testing to meet Rolex's Superlative Chronometer certification, which is a tougher certification. However, other watches like Omega and Patek Phillippe are very high quality, too. Those are great watches but Rolex has a far, far larger share of the market.

How about durability? Rolex watches are known for their durability and are designed to be robust and waterproof. The Oyster Perpetual model has a hermetically screwed down case back and a Twinlock winding crown with a double waterproofness system. In fact, they’re designed to be passed down from generation to generation. This makes some people believe Rolexes are a good investment because they tend to hold their value well over time. For example, Rolex Pepsi models often sell for more than their original retail price. Other watches are very high quality, too, though.

Rolex watches are considered stylish and versatile, and they can be worn for many occasions. They come in a variety of styles, and some models feature gem-set bezels for extra sparkle. Rolex is constantly researching and developing new materials, manufacturing techniques, and technological advancements to improve their watches. They’re not the only watch company to focus on innovation, though, so that can’t be it.

So what is it?

Well, there’s a term for it. They’ve got that special je ne sais quoi. Je ne sais quoi is French, and it means I don’t know what. It’s the same thing as when we talk about someone having the x factor or being the it girl. There’s something indescribable that makes a Rolex more than just a watch. I don’t know what it is but I can promise you I love the feel of an Explorer on my wrist.

If you’re looking for a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, give me a call. If I don’t have what you’re looking for, I can most likely find it for you. So, reach out. You’ll be glad you did.
