What Is the Best Way to Sell a Large Amount of Jewelry?

Have you found yourself with a great deal of jewelry? Perhaps you need to liquidate an estate. Maybe you purchased a storage unit and hit the jackpot. Maybe you’re in charge of selling some family assets or something along those lines. If you find yourself in that position, it can be a daunting situation. How do you go about making it all happen?

Well, it’s two steps. First, figure out what you have. Second, choose how you’ll sell.

First: Figure Out What You Have

You’ll want to identify the materials used such as gold, silver, or platinum. This should be your first step. You’ll want to see what gems are involved as well. Is there any supporting documentation? A diamond is valuable. A GIA certified diamond is even more valuable, and documentation is important. Receipts will help as well. Think of everything that can more clearly identify the jewelry, how much was paid for it, or what its quality might be. You should seriously consider, at the least, a verbal appraisal of the value so you have an idea of what the items are selling for lately.

SECOND: Decide How to Sell

You might just as easily call this section Decide Who to Sell Your Jewelery To. Do you want to handle selling your items to the people who will own it or do you want to sell it to someone who will then sell it to the retail customers. There are advantages to each strategy. When it comes to selling to retail customers yourself, the big advantage is money. You get more. When you sell to a dealer or get others involved, there’s less work for you but less money as well. When we meet sellers at our La Jolla showroom, we always stress that they’ll make more selling to private parties whether you’re handling it online or in person.

But time is money. Your effort is money, too. For many people selling jewelry in San Diego, selling all at once is a more attractive option. Pawn shops will buy your jewelry but usually won’t pay as much as a jeweler. When you bring your items to a jeweler, you’re dealing with someone who understands the materials, the designs, and the value. If you have jewelry to sell in San Diego, drop by our La Jolla showroom. You’ll be glad you did.
