Should You Sell Your Jewelry Online?

I surprise most people with my answer to this question. The reason is because I recommend it as often as I don’t. That may seem strange coming from someone who’s in the business of buying jewelry. However, I’m not just paying lip service to things when I say that I’m not interested in a quick buck. I want to develop relationships that last a lifetime. Not only do they end up better for business in the long run but it makes it a whole lot easier to sleep at night, too.

If you need money fast, you want to go to a jewelry buyer who will buy your items all at once. You have probably seen the “WE BUY GOLD!!!” stores. Avoid them at all costs. They give you a tiny fraction of what your jewelry is worth, and they don’t give you money for your gems. A second choice would be a pawn shop. They’ll treat you honestly and honorably, I believe. You’ll get a great deal more than you would at one of the gold stores. However, pawn shops make the bulk of their money with loans. Jewelry isn’t their main business, and they can’t give you as much as a jeweler might because a jeweler is more intimately familiar with the marketplace for your items. So, if you need money fast, I recommend a jeweler who buys jewelry, someone like me.

But what if there’s no emergency? You don’t need to pay a bill or handle an unexpected expense. There’s no debt weighing on you causing a ton of stress. What if you just inherited some jewelry or for some other reason have some jewelry that you no longer want. You have time and you’re willing to put in some effort.

Do it.

Put in the time and the effort.

The reason is really simple. Money. If you have a ring I really, really, really, really want to buy, the best I can do for you is wholesale pricing. That’s far less than you’ll make if you sell the item retail to someone online. If you can spend the time and energy on eBay or Etsy or one of the social media marketplaces, it will get you more money. Make sure you follow all their guidelines for safety.

If you need money quickly or if you’d just like a free verbal appraisal, why not give this San Diego Jewelry Buyer a chance to help. You can call me or just drop by the La Jolla showroom. You’ll be glad you did.
