Frederick Forsyth is a British author of thriller novels who is known for his realistic, fast-paced plots. His work is often based on international politics and personalities. He’s also a Rolex Testimonee, a brand ambassador. There’s a good chance you’ve seen movies or television shows based on his novels.
I can tell you that his novel writing most definitely isn’t the only thing that makes Forsyth special. Sure, Day of the Jackel is legendary when it comes to political spy thrillers, and you may have watched one of the film adaptations. There’s a new series that came out based on that book—twenty-three years after it was written. So, I understand how you might have a hard time thinking about his writing as just part of the picture, especially with other thrillers like The Odessa File, The Fourth Protocol and The Fist of God.
Frederick Forsyth is a former spy (although that became known after he was an ambassador for Rolex), RAF pilot (he was actually the youngest pilot in the Royal Air Force), and war correspondent. He also worked as a reporter for the BBC and Reuters, giving him the knowledge to write realistic thrillers. Forsyth has won three Edgar Awards and the Diamond Dagger Award from the Crime Writers' Association. Many of Forsyth's novels have been adapted into films and television miniseries.
Rolex was impressed by Forsyth's service in the RAF and as a foreign correspondent. He was featured in a Rolex campaign wearing a yellow-gold Day-Date. Associating with Forsyth in many ways gave Rolex the opportunity to associate with a real-life all-around adventurer cut from the same cloth as Earnest Hemmingway and Teddy Roosevelt. In one advertisement, the copy reads, “Fredrick Forsyth’s Rolex is like his novels. Tough, accurate, and very stylish.”
Forsyth is just one of many fascinating Rolex Testimonee brand ambassadors. His accomplishments are varied and perhaps not as famous as his characters but he’s the consummate adventurer, and that’s the kind of excellence Rolex loves to celebrate.
