Is Your Jewelry Good for Resale?

Writer: Bert LeviBert Levi

To determine if your jewelry is good to sell for resale, you can check if it's made from high-quality precious metals like gold or platinum, features good quality gemstones, is in excellent condition with minimal wear and tear, and is a current style or has significant antique value. You can look for recognizable designer brands and check for hallmarks to verify authenticity.

If your jewelry is likely to be resold, you’ll get a better price when you sell to a jewelry buyer.

Let’s look as some of the things you can consider.

Materials: First and foremost, what makes up your jewelry? Gold and platinum are generally good for resale. What about the gemstones? Larger, high-quality diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, and rubies hold more value. Smaller ones may best be used in other pieces of jewelry.

Condition: How ready is your jewelry to be showcased right now? Is there minimal wear and tear? Scratches, dents, or damaged prongs significantly decrease value. Also, to make it look as good as possible, make sure your jewelry is clean. A well-cleaned piece presents better and can fetch a higher price.

Design and Style: This is less cut and dry but still important. Pieces that match current fashion trends are more desirable. Timeless designs can also hold value. Jewelry from recognized designers like Tiffany & Co. or Cartier often have higher resale value. Check for hallmark stamps on the jewelry to verify metal purity and origin. Also, consider getting a professional appraisal for valuable pieces.

Jewelry that doesn’t qualify for resale can still be sold. It will just likely be melted down and recycled. You will be paid much less. This includes pieces with significant damage or requiring. Jewelry made from lower karat gold will be worth less than others. Items made with non-precious metals or low-quality gemstones will have minimal resale value.

I hope this information helps you. If you would like a jewelry buyer in San Diego, won’t you give me a call? I can promise you my staff and I will do everything we can to offer you a fair deal.
