How to Keep Your Rolex Running Smoothly

If you own a Rolex, it’s likely you invested a substantial amount in order to procure it. The truth is, a Rolex is a purchase outside of the budget for most people and a substantial purchase even if you can afford it. Keeping it running well isn’t just protecting your investment, though. Keeping it running well helps you to get the most value for the money you’ve spent.

Here are two things you should always keep in mind to keep your Rolex in tiptop shape.

Rolexes Work Best When Worn Regularly

You probably already know that the self-winding movement in a Rolex relies on movement. Did you know there are also important lubricants at work in your watch? These lubricants are distributed with the natural movements of your arm. There’s nothing special to do. Just going about your day moves the lubricant so it is efficiently distributed and so the thickness of the liquid is maintained at optimum levels. You know what happens if the oil in your car gets sludgy and thick. Wearing your Rolex prevents that from happening in your watch. Regular wear, as counterintuitive as it might sound, is the easiest way to prevent wear inside your watch.

Cleaning a Rolex doesn’t require a professional. In fact, it’s rather easy. Simply fill a bowl with water and mild soap. Rinse your Rolex and then use your hands to clean the watch with the soapy water. You can also use a soft-bristled toothbrush to scrub away any dirt. Because this will submerge your Rolex briefly, make sure the case is screwed tightly. In addition, since you’ll be using your hands, it’s a good idea to wash them before the watch. When you watch is clean, use a soft cloth to pat it dry. You can also use a blow dryer to get rid of moisture between the links.

You should have your Rolex serviced by a professional every two or three years. Apart from that, simply wearing your watch regularly and cleaning your watch regularly will go a very long way toward keeping your Rolex functioning at its best and looking its best as well.
