A pre-owned Rolex watch undergining maintenance

If you own a Rolex, you have a piece of watchmaking history and the pinnacle of mechanical timepiece history. Any Rolex watch deserves to be treated with respect. Let’s not forget, too, that a Rolex represents a pretty significant investment for most of us, and so it makes a lot of sense to learn how to take care of it effectively.

Here are some tips that are certain to help you keep your Rolex looking and running great.

Make sure to store your Rolex watch properly. Keep your watch somewhere safe from sunlight or high temperatures. Make sure you keep it somewhere cool and dry.

Wear your Rolex! Apart from the fact that you paid a great deal of money to put a Rolex on your wrist, wearing it keeps it working.  Rolexes are designed to operate in order for the internal lubrication to work. When you wear your Rolex, the movement of your arm is what powers the self-winding mechanism. If you don't wear your Rolex for long enough, it can damage the gears and stop the internal watchworks.

Clean your Rolex. Avoid harsh chemicals but use a clean, soft cloth with a little soapy water or jewelry cleaner to wipe off dirt and fingerprints. Never use abrasive materials. Once a month use a soft brush like a soft-bristled toothbrush to do a deep cleaning.

Be Careful with Water! This is especially true with vintage Rolexes. Avoid submerging a Rolex unless it’s designed for that like a Submariner or a Sea Dweller. Even then, dry your Rolex after each dive and be sure to store it in a clean and dry location.

There you have it, some tips to help you keep your Rolex running smoothly.  Along with regular servicing according to Rolex’s recommendations, these tips can really help you to keep your Rolex beautiful and operational for generations to come.
