Was Princess Grace’s ring the most beautiful ring of all time? There are a great many people who will tell you that it was absolutely and without question the most beautiful ring. Well, I’m a third-generation jeweler, and I can tell you right now that Grace Kelly’s ring is stunning. I’ll let you decide if it’s the most beautiful. I can tell you right now, it’s the most expensive engagement ring of all time. I guess that’s what happens when you’re so elegant, beautiful, talented, and brilliant that you make the prince of Monaco feel lucky to have your attention!
If you’ve read many of my blogs, you already know that I’m a third generation jeweler. You know that part of what my grandfather and my father taught me was that jewelry is important because of the people involved. What makes it special is the people the hold the jewelry dear, whose special events and emotions are commemorated by it. Let me tell you, you’ll have a hard time coming up with someone more special than Grace Kelly became Grace of Monaco in 1956 when she married Prince Rainier III. She was twenty-six years old when she left acting to take on the duties of Princess of Monaco but she’d already won one Academy Award for and two Golden Globes.
So, if you ask me, what’s special about Grace Kelly’s engagement ring is that Grace Kelly was a very special person. However, if you ask me why Grace Kelly’s ring is generally considered the best engagement ring of all time, there are other reasons involved. The engagement ring was shockingly beautiful because of its size, cost, and the fact that it was designed by Cartier. It's one of the most famous engagement rings in history. The ring features a ten and a half carat emerald-cut diamond, which is a big part of why it cost more than four million dollars back in 1956. That’s the equivalent of close to thirty-nine million dollars today!

The ring is platinum. In addition to the incredible ten and a half carat emerald cut diamond, there are to baguette-cut side stones. The three-stone design symbolized the past, present, and future of the relationship. The ring appeared in Kelly's final movie, High Society (1956), and in the movie, Kelly's character polishes the ring on a seat cushion and admires it.
I’ve never sold an engagement ring like Princess Grace’s but I believe that everyone falls in love regardless of their financial situation and with that in mind, I believe everyone is entitled to a beautiful engagement ring regardless of the budget. If you need an engagement ring in San Diego, give me a call. You’ll be glad you did.
