First and foremost, I want to make sure you’re really asking that question. Are you asking if you can afford a Rolex or are you asking if you can buy a Rolex. The bottom line is that you can probably buy a Rolex even if you can’t afford it. If you can qualify for a department store credit card, you can qualify for jewelry financing. So, you can buy a Rolex.
But that doesn’t mean you can afford one.
For most people, Rolex watches are generally considered expensive, but some models are more affordable than others. What does that mean, though? It means you can buy some for less than eight thousand dollars. That kind of money is nothing to sneeze at!
Rolex watches can range from that amount for entry-level models to over $100,000 for solid gold models. The price of a Rolex watch depends on the model, whether it's new or pre-owned, and the materials used. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual, the Rolex Milgauss, and the Rolex Datejust are more accessible options that come in a variety of dial colors and sizes.
A good-quality vintage Rolex model usually costs about the same as its original retail cost or more. Rolex watches are known for their quality Swiss craftsmanship and are designed to last for generations. This means a Rolex typically holds value for longer than most luxury goods. It’s possible to use that as an excuse to make a purchase that isn’t a wise decision.
Wow, Bert! You sell pre-owned Rolexes in San Diego. Why are you trying to convince us not to buy?
I’m not trying to convince you not to buy. I just want you to recognize a Rolex purchase for what it is, a luxury purchase. It’s not an investment or a smart decision financially. It’s a way to enjoy your money. I don’t know any other way to explain it. It’s a fantastic watch that will last for generations but it’s a luxury purchase and not an everyday necessity where issues of affordability ought to be considered.
If you need to figure out if you can afford it, you probably should wait and save your money until you’re really confident about it. It may lose me customers to say that but I’ll sleep better with fewer customers than I will if I’m dishonest about things just to get customers.
