An Affordable Entry Level Rolex Watch

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

For many people who want to buy a pre-owned Rolex in San Diego, the primary concern is budget. A fine timepiece can cost tens of thousands of dollars, placing it outside of the price range for the majority of people. The good news is there are more affordable options out there. Make no mistake, though. A Rolex is a luxury watch and even a pre-owned watch represents a substantial investment. Here are three Rolex models you can likely purchase for less than $8500, at least at the time this post was written.

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 39

This may be the perfect entry level watch. It was discontinued in 2020 so prices are appreciating now but you can still find high quality Oyster Perpetual’s for between $5000 and $6000. This is an iconic watch and when people envision a Rolex, this is probably the model they see in their mind. If you want to buy one, you’ll want to move fast. Some models, such as the rhodium dial edition are already selling for close to eight thousand dollars. You’ll want to pick up one of these as soon as you can before it appreciates out of your price range. Rolex isn’t making any more of them and they’re in very high demand.

Rolex Datejust

The Datejust 36 is gradually increasing in price despite increased production of new watches from Rolex. Pre-owned Rolex Datejust watches in certain cases are some of the most affordable pre-owned luxury watches you can buy. The ref. 1601 can usually be obtained in the mid $5000s while the ref. 16234 can sell in the low $6000s. There are a number of factors that determine price but an entry-level Datejust is a great choice when it comes to putting a Rolex on your wrist.

Rolex Explorer

The average purchase price for a Rolex Explorer in excellent condition is slowly increasing and sells now in the low $8000s. That puts them at the high end for entry level Rolexes. Again, buying sooner rather than later might be the best course of action because as the fiftieth anniversary of the Rolex Explorer II draws near, prices are sure to go up.

An entry level Rolex is a great choice when you want to step into the luxury watch world for the first time. As always, you want to deal with a reputable pre-owned Rolex seller. You also want to keep in mind that even though these are the more affordable choices when it comes to Rolex, there is still a substantial investment and any purchase ought to be preceded with a great deal of consideration for the expense.
